Pixel P&L: Xbox hits reset, Nazara raises ₹500Cr, Fortnite's Google Play comeback

Welcome to another Pixel P&L edition. This issue takes 5 minutes to read. If you only have one, here are the 5 most important things:
Nazara Technologies is raising INR 500 crore through warrants, with proceeds earmarked for acquisitions and AI-enabled gaming expansion.
Microsoft's new Xbox boss killed the "This is an Xbox" campaign within days of taking over, and is personally leading a brand reset.
Krafton shut down PUBG Blindspot two months after launch, citing low player counts.
Fortnite racked up 5.7 million Google Play downloads in 11 days since returning to the store globally.
The Maldives is breaking ground on a 40-station esports arena in Malé later this year.
Let's get into it.
Nazara Technologies Raises INR 500 crore in Warrant Issuance
Nazara Technologies said it will raise INR 500 crore ($58 million) through a preferential issue of warrants, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. Each warrant converts into one equity share at INR 260 per share, a premium to the current market price.
The round draws participation from Riambel Capital PCC, a SEBI-registered Category I Foreign Portfolio Investor, S Gupta Family Investments, Classic Enterprises, Founders Collective, and Plutus Investment and Holding, which is part of Nazara's promoter group.
The company said proceeds will fund strategic acquisitions, including its recently announced Bluetile and BestPlay transaction, and support expansion across its existing business units. Joint MD and CEO Nitish Mittersain said the capital would help Nazara build "globally scalable, AI-enabled gaming businesses."
New Xbox Boss Kills Cross-Platform Ad Campaign in First Move
Microsoft's new gaming chief Asha Sharma discontinued the "This is an Xbox" marketing campaign within days of taking the role, according to Windows Central. The campaign, which promoted Xbox as a cross-device platform appearing on Samsung and LG products, drew criticism from console owners who already felt the brand's identity was eroding as Microsoft moved its exclusive titles to PlayStation 5.
"Asha retired 'This is an Xbox' because it didn't feel like Xbox," a Microsoft spokesperson said. "She is personally leading a reset of how we show up as a brand." The campaign had also faced internal resistance, with some staff reportedly feeling it undermined their work.
Sharma, who succeeded Phil Spencer last month, has framed her tenure around three priorities: quality games, the "return of Xbox," and what she calls "the future of play." Microsoft's original November announcement page for the campaign has since been taken offline.

Krafton Shuts Down PUBG Spinoff After Two Months
Krafton is closing PUBG Blindspot, a top-down tactical shooter that entered Steam Early Access in January, after the title peaked at 3,251 concurrent players before declining to a few hundred. The closure follows the PUBG franchise delivering Krafton's best-ever annual revenue. The company's stated Early Access policy treats limited launches as validation tests before committing further resources.
Fortnite Hits 5.7 Million Google Play Downloads in 11 Days
Fortnite has accumulated an estimated 5.7 million installs on Google Play since its global return on March 19, per AppMagic data (via Pocketgamer). The title has not topped global download charts but led the US store for two days and has held the top spot in Brazil and Mexico for nine and ten days respectively. Global Play Store revenue reached an estimated $308,000 over the period, with the US accounting for 30%.

📺 Watch: Ben Starr on the Game Maker's Notebook is worth your time for this rant alone. His argument is simple: every problem in the AAA industry right now is a money problem, and AI is just the latest way shareholders are trying to replace the people who actually make games with something cheaper and worse.
🎮 Play: After fifteen hours with Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, it holds up better than it has any right to. The arcade flight controls are immediately accessible, each mission throws a different objective at you before the last one gets repetitive, and the progression system of unlocking new aircraft actually gives you a reason to replay rather than just padding out playtime. Runs flawlessly on PC. If you have any interest in military aircraft but bounced off realistic flight sims, this is the series that makes the genre click.
📚 Read: Lewis Gordon's piece for Art Review on Nintendo, nostalgia and accumulation makes an argument that's hard to shake once you've read it: that Nintendo spent decades merging hyperconsumerism with pastoral childhood fantasy, and that Pokémon's "gotta catch 'em all" logic quietly normalised the blind box, the gacha pull, and the looter shooter long before anyone was writing think pieces about it.

A PlayStation trophy widely considered impossible has finally been earned, 13 years after the game's release. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus on PS Vita has long been notorious among trophy hunters, and now a Japanese PSN user known as Tqvry has become the first verified player to unlock its platinum, "Master of the Secret Arts." What makes the Vita version uniquely brutal is that it strips out online co-op entirely, forcing players through Tag Missions with an unreliable AI partner that was never rebalanced for solo play. Tqvry logged around 600 hours to reach 100% completion and uploaded a nearly 10-hour proof run to YouTube.
