Minor Files Lawsuit Against Roblox and Discord for Online Safety Failures

A Florida teenager has initiated legal proceedings against Roblox and Discord, alleging the technology companies' platforms enabled her sexual exploitation as a minor, according to court documents spotted by Polygon.

The lawsuit, submitted by attorneys from Anapol Weiss and Girard Sharp on April 21, contends that deficiencies in the companies' design, marketing and safety protocols facilitated inappropriate contact with the plaintiff when she was 12 years old.

Legal filings detail how an online predator allegedly used the platforms to manipulate the minor into sharing explicit content, resulting in significant psychological harm and academic decline.

The plaintiff seeks damages across multiple claims including negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation and product liability.

In a statement to Polygon, Roblox defended its safety practices while declining specific comment on pending litigation. The gaming platform is reportedly under separate investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Both companies have recently enhanced parental controls amid increasing regulatory scrutiny of online child safety measures.

Magicians Penn & Teller created "Desert Bus," arguably the most tedious video game ever made, featuring an unskippable 8-hour real-time drive between Tucson and Las Vegas. The bus slightly veers right, requiring constant steering correction, and if you crash, a tow truck returns you to the starting point—also in real time. Originally part of their unreleased "Smoke and Mirrors" game collection intended to mock video game violence controversies, Desert Bus has since become a cult classic and the centerpiece of annual charity gaming marathons that have raised millions for good causes.
