Riot Games Reveals Riftbound, Its First Physical Trading Card Game
Riot Games has officially unveiled Riftbound as the title of its upcoming physical trading card game, previously known as Project K. Announced via the game’s official X account, Riftbound marks the company’s latest expansion of the League of Legends IP into new product verticals.
Set for release in China in summer 2025, with launches in English-speaking markets to follow, Riftbound features 1v1, 2v2, and free-for-all gameplay modes. Its first set, Origins, includes over 300 cards, with rare variants and original art. A secondary set, Proving Grounds, targets newcomers—indicating Riot’s intent to capture both core and casual TCG audiences.
Publishing and distribution will be handled by UVS Games, a U.S.-based tabletop specialist with 17 years of experience. The move positions Riot to tap into the fast-growing TCG market, which has seen significant resurgence. The global trading card game industry was valued at $3.48 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $5.09 billion by 2028.
GameSquare Exits FaZe Media, Eyes Growth in Esports Events
GameSquare Holdings Inc. has divested its remaining 25.5% stake in FaZe Media, the company announced Monday, marking a strategic exit from the creator-focused business it helped spin out less than a year ago. FaZe Media, now led by FaZe Clan founder Richard “FaZe Banks” Bengston, will no longer be consolidated in GameSquare’s financials as of April 1.
While deal terms remain under wraps until GameSquare’s Q4 2024 results on April 16, the move aligns with efforts to streamline operations and push toward profitability. GameSquare will retain full ownership of FaZe Clan’s esports operations.
The company is shifting focus to high-impact, talent-led events and immersive IRL experiences. A new $2 million credit facility backed by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will support early operational needs. GameSquare also plans to roll out a collegiate esports initiative, expanding its presence in youth-focused gaming communities across North America.
