Let's get into it.
Nazara Publishing Makes VR Debut Despite Industry Headwinds
Nazara Technologies, India's only publicly listed gaming company, entered the virtual reality gaming market with the launch of Pokerverse VR.
The multiplayer poker game, developed by Hyderabad studio YesGnome, marks Nazara Publishing's first foray into VR despite lukewarm market reception for immersive gaming platforms. Meta's Quest headsets and Apple's Vision Pro, while technologically advanced, remain niche products due to high costs and limited content libraries.
"We see exciting possibilities in this space," said Nitish Mittersain, Nazara's joint managing director, though the company hasn't announced additional VR investments.
The free-to-play title launches amid broader challenges facing VR gaming. Major publishers have scaled back VR commitments following disappointing sales, while consumer surveys show persistent concerns about motion sickness and social isolation.
Nazara, which operates gaming franchises including World Cricket Championship, generated INR 9.1 billion in revenue last year primarily from mobile games. The company's VR expansion reflects growing pressure on gaming firms to diversify as mobile market growth slows globally.
Indonesian Esports Tournament Draws 4.1 Million Viewers Despite Audience Decline
Indonesia's MPL Season 15 tournament attracted 4.13 million peak viewers for its grand final, data platform Esports Charts said, even as overall audience engagement for the mobile gaming league declined this season.
The final between ONIC Esports and RRQ Hoshi exceeded the previous regional record of 3.9 million viewers, but average viewership dropped to 488,526 from 511,551 in Season 14, highlighting challenges facing sustained audience growth in mobile esports.
The tournament showcased the fragmented nature of mobile esports consumption, with YouTube capturing 2.5 million viewers while TikTok Live drew 1.5 million during peak viewing.
RRQ appeared in the five most-watched matches, indicating how star teams drive viewership spikes in a market where casual engagement has softened.

Nintendo reported 3.5 million global sales in four days, approaching its 15 million forecast through March 2026.
