Let's get into it.
Jio Platforms Launches Virtual Desktop Service to Transform TVs into PCs
Reliance Industries' digital arm Jio Platforms has unveiled JioPC, a cloud-based virtual desktop service that turns set-top boxes into personal computers, targeting India's massive television user base.
The service, currently in free trial via waitlist, allows users to access a PC experience on their TV by connecting a keyboard and mouse to Jio's set-top box, which costs INR 5,499 ($64) or comes bundled with home broadband service.
With 76% of Indian households owning TVs but only 10% having PCs, Jio aims to bridge this gap among its 488 million users. While India's PC market grows over 8% year-over-year, the traditional direct-to-home TV market shrinks 5% year-over-year, creating an opportunity for innovative convergence services.
The service builds on Jio's existing cloud gaming platform, Jio Games Cloud, which offers PC titles like Ghostrunner and A Plague Tale Innocence for INR 200 monthly after a free trial. JioPC could potentially provide a more integrated PC-like gaming experience alongside productivity applications.
🎮 On Our Radar: The Roblox Creator Economy Gold Rush
Could we be witnessing gaming's youngest millionaire class? While parents think their teenagers are simply "playing games," a new generation of developers is quietly building million-dollar businesses on Roblox.
Bloomberg reports that a 19-year-old creator recently sold their anime-inspired soccer game for over $3 million after just three months of development. The game generated $5 million monthly and attracted over 1 million concurrent players. This isn't isolated: Roblox's top 10 developers each earned around $36 million in the past year, with the platform projected to pay out over $1 billion to creators in 2025.
Unlike traditional gaming development requiring years and massive teams, Roblox creators achieve comparable success with small teams and rapid cycles. Major studios are aggressively acquiring successful titles, with seven of the platform's 15 highest-earning games now owned by companies rather than original creators. Many deals happen anonymously through Discord, with lawyers reporting six-figure transactions involving minors.
We're watching this space closely as it redefines both gaming careers and teenage entrepreneurship.
