Indian Game Studio SuperGaming Raises $15 Million in Series B Round

Indian game development studio SuperGaming secured $15 million in Series B funding to expand internationally and develop its gaming infrastructure platform.

The round was led by existing investor SkyCatcher, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz's a16z Speedrun, Bandai Namco 021 Fund, and several Web3-focused investors including Polygon Ventures. The funding follows the company's $5.5 million Series A in October 2021.

The Pune-based studio plans to use the capital to launch Indus Battle Royale in Latin America through a partnership with Brazil's LOUD.GG, marking its first major international expansion. The company will also invest in SuperPlatform, its cloud-based software-as-a-service solution that helps developers build multiplayer games for emerging markets.

The company is positioning itself to capitalize on India's growing role as a game development hub while targeting underserved international markets with locally-optimized gaming experiences.

Pakistan Partners With U.K. Group to Develop First National Esports Policy

Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding with the British Esports Federation and Commonwealth Secretariat to create the country's first national esports policy, targeting its large youth demographic for digital skills development.

The agreement, signed Thursday with Pakistan's Prime Minister Youth Programme, will establish a Pakistan Esports Federation and launch training programs, academies and gaming arenas. The initiative aims to leverage esports as part of Pakistan's broader digital transformation strategy.

Pakistan faces significant infrastructure challenges that have limited gaming growth. Equipment costs remain prohibitively high for many players, while frequent power outages disrupt gameplay. The partnership will focus on developing high-speed internet infrastructure and supporting commercialization of locally developed games.

With 64% of Pakistan's population under 30 according to UN data, the government views esports as a vehicle for youth engagement and skills development. The British Esports Federation, established in 2016, has previously partnered with various countries to promote esports growth and safety initiatives.

IGN laid off eight employees, representing 12% of its unionized workforce, as part of cost-cutting measures mandated by parent company Ziff Davis. The gaming publication's union said the layoffs occurred despite "several quarters in a row of year-over-year revenue increases." The cuts follow Ziff Davis's broader restructuring that eliminated 23 positions across its media properties including CNET and Mashable, even as the conglomerate completed five acquisitions this year.

Former Cities: Skylines Designer Launches Irish Gaming Studio

Day Off Interactive, a Dublin-based gaming studio founded by former Cities: Skylines lead designer Karoliina Korppoo and Life is Strange producer Des Gayle, emerged from stealth mode with angel investor backing. The 14-person studio specializes in strategy and simulation games, operating remotely across Europe. The company plans to announce its debut title later this year.

Sunburn Festival Relocates to Mumbai to Tap India's Financial Hub Market

Sunburn Festival is moving from Goa to Mumbai after 18 years, targeting India's financial capital's larger consumer base.
