Grand Theft Auto 6 Faces Second Major Delay
Take-Two Interactive pushed back the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to November 2026, marking the second delay for gaming's most anticipated title.
Rockstar Games originally targeted Fall 2025 before moving the launch to May 2026. The latest postponement adds six more months, setting the release for November 19, 2026, essentially a full year beyond initial plans.
"These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect," Rockstar said in a statement.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick defended the decision during an investor call, emphasizing the company's commitment to quality over deadlines. "We've never regretted it in retrospect," he said, referencing previous delays. He noted competitors who released unpolished games "did so at their peril."
Following the delay, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Rockstar employees never believed the Fall 2025 window was realistic, citing heavy workloads and management's effort to avoid excessive overtime. Despite the setback, Take-Two expects record financial performance in fiscal 2027.
Tamil Nadu Plans Gaming Hub as States Compete for Industry
Tamil Nadu will establish a gaming Center of Excellence in Chennai within six months, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin announced at the India Game Developer Conference 2025.
The state joins growing competition among Indian regions vying for a share of the gaming sector. Tamil Nadu's plan includes regional hubs in Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, and Tirunelveli, with government support for startups covering payroll and infrastructure costs.
IT Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said the state's AVGC XR policy—covering animation, gaming, and extended reality—awaits final approval. The framework targets education reform, infrastructure development, business facilitation, and financial incentives.
Developed with industry input and influenced by France's Pixel Players cluster, the policy aims to integrate gaming into educational curricula and create a B2B marketplace for developers.

Square Enix Cuts Over 100 Jobs in Overseas Restructuring
Square Enix is closing overseas development studios and consolidating operations in Japan, putting over 100 jobs at risk in the U.S. and UK. The Japanese publisher said the "fundamental restructuring" aims to strengthen development capabilities and improve operational efficiency. An internal presentation cited optimizing resource allocation and reviewing its development pipeline. The company said the decision followed "careful consideration" to position long-term growth, adding it will provide support for departing employees.
Discord Expands Parental Controls With New Monitoring Tools
Discord is rolling out enhanced Family Center features allowing parents to monitor teenagers' platform activity more closely. The update enables guardians to control sensitive media filters, manage friend requests and direct messages, and view purchase history from the past week. Parents can also see total voice minutes and rankings of their teen's most-messaged contacts and servers, though message content remains private. Launched in 2023, Family Center aims to help parents understand how teenagers use Discord. The new tools provide "full transparency," informing teens what guardians can monitor and which settings are enabled.
Singapore Moves to Recognize Esports as Official Sport
Singapore's parliament is considering legislation that would formally recognize esports alongside traditional sports, marking a first for the city-state's sports law. Bill No. 19/2025 would expand the Singapore Sports Council's mandate to cover esports and "mind sports" like chess, enabling structured athlete development, coaching standards, and facility funding. The council's membership would also expand from 15 to 25 members. The move follows Singapore's push as a regional esports hub, hosting major tournaments and producing professional players in games like Dota 2 and League of Legends.

"As you know, occasionally across our entire company, including 2K and our mobile business, at times more time is required to polish a title to ensure that it's released in its best possible form. And of course it'll release in the same fiscal year as the prior date."

After 21 years without premium currency, World of Warcraft is introducing "Hearthsteel" with its upcoming Midnight expansion alongside the highly anticipated player housing feature. While Blizzard claims the currency will make purchasing multiple decorative items more efficient, players are skeptical. The community fears the classic premium currency trap: items priced at awkward amounts forcing players to buy more currency than needed. Blizzard promises that core race, class, and iconic Azeroth items won't be shop-exclusive, and players can purchase Hearthsteel with in-game gold via WoW tokens. However, the decision has sparked heated debate about monetization in a subscription-based game.
