Esports Added as Demonstration Sport at Khelo India Youth Games 2025

The Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025, scheduled to take place in Bihar from May 4 to 15, will feature esports as a demonstration sport for the first time. While the inclusion reflects esports’ growing visibility in India, it stops short of full recognition. No competitive titles have been confirmed yet, and the discipline will not be part of the official medal tally.

According to the event’s official website, athletes in “priority sports disciplines” are eligible for financial assistance of ₹5 lakh per year for eight years, subject to identification by a High-Powered Committee. As a demonstration event, esports is unlikely to receive such benefits, limiting its access to the long-term support mechanisms designed to build a pipeline of Olympic and international-level athletes.

The move comes amid growing global momentum for esports, with its return as a medal event at the 2026 Asian Games and its expected debut at the 2027 Olympic Esports Games. For India, the KIYG trial signals interest but not yet commitment.

S8UL Secures Spot at Pokémon UNITE World Championship 2025 in California

S8UL has emerged as the winner of the India Qualifier for the Pokémon UNITE World Championship Series (WCS) 2025, securing $15,000 in prize money and a direct invite to the global finals in Anaheim, California. The qualifier, hosted by The Pokémon Company and Skyesports, is India’s official pathway to the $500,000 global tournament scheduled for August 15–17.

The victory marks a repeat performance for S8UL, which also won the 2024 India Qualifier but withdrew from the world championship due to visa complications. Their successful campaign this year positions them to finally capitalize on international exposure and commercial opportunities associated with one of Pokémon’s biggest esports titles.

A programmer at a game company got so fed up with producers making pointless suggestions just to feel useful that he sneakily added a flapping duck into Battle Chess—a game where medieval chess pieces literally come to life and fight each other. When the producer reviewed the animations, he said, "That looks great. Just one thing: get rid of the duck."
