Asia-Pacific Gaming Growth Slows as Global Market Matures, Newzoo Says
The Asia-Pacific region's gaming market is expected to grow at its slowest pace in years, reflecting broader maturation across the global gaming industry, according to a new report from market research firm Newzoo.
Asia-Pacific gaming revenues are projected to reach $87.6 billion in 2025, up just 2.3% from the previous year, well below the global average growth rate of 3.4%. The region, which accounts for 46% of worldwide gaming revenues, is showing signs of market saturation particularly in key markets like China and Japan.
The company's 2025 Global Games Market Report, released Wednesday, noted that the focus continues to shift to retention and more innovative monetization, with paying user growth outpacing revenue growth.
China, the world's largest gaming market, is expected to grow by 3.1% year-over-year, driven by expanding Steam adoption and returning Activision Blizzard titles. However, this represents a significant deceleration from the double-digit growth rates the country experienced in previous years.
Mobile gaming, which dominates the Asian market, faces particular headwinds. Mobile revenues are projected to hit $103.0 billion globally with 2.9% growth, but Asia-Pacific is expected to see lower growth rates due to regulatory changes and market maturation.
The gaming industry globally is reaching 3.6 billion players in 2025, representing 61.5% of the world's online population. However, Newzoo notes that the share of online users playing games is plateauing, forcing companies to focus more heavily on monetizing existing players rather than acquiring new ones.
Console gaming shows more promise, with revenues forecast to grow 5.5% globally, bolstered by new hardware launches including Nintendo's anticipated Switch 2 and major game releases.
Hip-Hop Festival Rolling Loud Makes India Debut
India's music landscape is set for a seismic shift as Rolling Loud, the world's largest hip-hop festival, arrives in the country for the first time. The two-day event, scheduled for November 22-23 at Loud Park in Navi Mumbai, signals the global music industry's growing recognition of India's expanding hip-hop market.
The festival will feature international heavyweights including UK rapper Central Cee, Pittsburgh's Wiz Khalifa, and Houston's Don Toliver. In a historic first, Punjabi artist Karan Aujla becomes the first Indian performer to headline a Rolling Loud event, sharing the stage with Mumbai's DIVINE, who will debut material from his latest album.
The lineup reflects hip-hop's cross-cultural appeal, mixing established American artists like Swae Lee and DaBaby with emerging Indian talent including Hanumankind and Arivu. Industry observers view the festival as validation of India's burgeoning hip-hop scene, which has gained momentum through streaming platforms and local language adaptations.

Microsoft Brings Xbox Gaming to Cars Through LG Partnership
Microsoft is expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming to internet-connected vehicles, partnering with LG Electronics to integrate the service into cars using LG's webOS Automotive Content Platform. The feature allows backseat passengers to stream games through rear-seat displays in compliance with driving safety regulations. The service requires a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, automotive data plan, and Bluetooth controller. LG plans to deploy the platform across Kia's European models, targeting 20 million vehicles by 2030.
Nintendo Wins $2 Million Settlement Against Gaming Modder
Nintendo secured a $2 million judgment against Ryan Michael Daly, who sold devices enabling video game piracy through his Modded Hardware website. Daly agreed to the settlement to avoid trial after being accused of copyright infringement and trafficking circumvention devices like the MIG Switch. The court ruled Daly's products enabled "massive scale" piracy, harming Nintendo's business. A permanent injunction prohibits future sales of modification devices targeting Nintendo consoles.
Danish Esports Team Astralis Sold After $4.8 Million Loss
Fusion Esports Group, led by Astralis co-founder Jakob Lund Kristensen and former Ninjas in Pyjamas COO Jonas Gundersen, has acquired the struggling Danish esports organization. The buyout follows Astralis posting a $4.8 million loss in 2024, attributed partly to poor Counter-Strike team performance. Kristensen, who previously founded Copenhagen Wolves, said the organization retains "enormous potential" despite recent competitive struggles including missing four major tournaments consecutively.
Call of Duty League Franchise Moves to Saudi Arabia
The Vegas Falcons esports franchise has relocated to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, rebranding as the Riyadh Falcons and signing star player McArthur "Cellium" Jovel. Saudi Arabian organization Team Falcons acquired the franchise slot from previous operators c0ntact Gaming. The move marks the first Middle Eastern team in the traditionally North America-focused Call of Duty League, requiring Activision Blizzard's approval and reflecting the gaming industry's growing ties to Saudi investment.

📜 Quote of the Day
"Some are born with talent, and some aren't. That's true. But that said... Those with talent never make it through talent alone. You have to overcome. Find boundaries, and break them. The only way to grow is by overcoming challenges”
